While Crail Fish Bar & Cafe mostly receives high praise, some diners express disappointment over the frozen onion rings, which can be a letdown for those expecting homemade sides. Others mention occasionally waiting in line, particularly during peak dinner hours, which can deter some from visiting. However, many agree that the wait is worth it for the quality of the food, particularly when it comes to their fish and chips. Some guests also prefer paying cash over cards to support local businesses better, although the cafe does accommodate a variety of payment methods. Overall, the hiccups are minor in comparison to the overall experience.
Wow! Incredible fish supper. Best I’ve had in a long time. Yes there was a long wait, however, worth every second of waiting. Can’t beat a fresh, made to order chippy. Weather was nice so went for a stroll around the harbour to take in the fantastic views.
What usually brings me to Crail is the lobster shack. I have heard so many great reviews from Fife locals about the fish here so decided to finally give it a try. I have a couple go-to fish and chip shops so I am difficult to be swayed. Well, this one didn't disappoint and now is added to my chippy rotation! The area it's hard to find a "bad" one but this place definitely pars up with the big dogs. 💪 Maybeee even teetering towards the top because I am a sucker for small family run businesses. 😉 I may be wrong, but it seems like a wholesome, family working establishment. Efficient and friendly where everyone knows their role in the processing of your order. They have a couple tables to dine in if needed. They accept card but always best to pay cash if you can, it is better for businesses. *For those gluten-free, they offer it daily!* Now, the food. Just the perfect amount of salt was added. The haddock (2 pieces) had a nice golden color. Crisp with a good thickness. (See photo) Some places seem like they flatten the fish, butterfly etc. and too much batter. This was the perfect ratio. The chips were crunchy on the outside and still fluffy inside. Fresh peeled today, not bought in. Only downside is- the onion rings are frozen. I did ask beforehand and was given honesty. It is so hard to find a chippy that does fresh because it can be a nuisance. The onions are drippy, resulting in more batter falling off in the fryers. So I can understand why. Even the most famous chippy does frozen too. 🤷♀️ Superseded my expectations!!! 👏
Was fancying fish and chips but on a solo trip with the dog so needed somewhere i could pop in and not queue for ages. Driving through Crail the parking space was free outside. Super friendly staff, relaxed and lovely place, would have sat in if i hadn’t had the dog. Food served freshly cooked, some of the best chips i’ve ever had and haddock was stunning, even though i’m usually used to cod being from Northumberland, i may be a convert. Can’t fault the place, and very reasonably priced too.
Second visit to this delightful fish and chip shop. Absolutely fantastic. Great food and service. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I’d recommend.
Hot, fresh, speedy, reasonably priced (compared to others in area). But best of all, very friendly, welcoming staff! 🤍 Preferred these by far, than one of the popular Anstruther fish bars, that took absolutely ages to serve, with smaller portions and slightly over done fish!. Well done guys! 🐟🍟
It's going to be number 501 review of Crail Fish and chips and it has to be 5 stars. Had four fish suppers and everyone loved it. Thank you for a delicious meal.
Had a brilliant evening here with over 20 of us sat in enjoying delicious fish and chips before a wedding the next day. The team bent over backwards to look after us all, despite some latecomers who were delayed coming over from Glasgow.
